A WiFi QR code connects a phone to your network in one scan, with no typing. Use it for guests at home, in a café, an office or an event.

Before you start

  • Have your network name, password and security type. They’re usually printed on a label on your router.
A WiFi QR code stores the network details inside the code itself. If you change the network name or password later, the QR code pattern changes and you need to reprint it.

Create it

1

Open the QR code builder

Click Create QR in the sidebar.
2

Choose WiFi

In Choose QR type, click WiFi.
3

Enter the network name

Type your network name in WiFi Network Name, exactly as it appears on your devices.
4

Choose the security type

In Network Security Type, pick the type your router uses. If you’re not sure, keep WPA/WPA2 (recommended).
5

Enter the password

Type your WiFi password in Network Password.
6

Mark a hidden network (optional)

If your network doesn’t broadcast its name, turn on My WiFi is a hidden network.
7

Name your QR code (optional)

Type a name in Name your QR Code. Only you see it.
8

Go to the design step

Click Next.
9

Design and create

Customize the design (see Design overview), then click Create QR.

What people see when they scan

The phone’s camera recognizes the network and offers to join it. One tap connects. No web page opens. WiFi QR codes work differently from other types:
  • No short link. The code holds the network details directly, so there’s no Custom short link option.
  • No scan tracking. Scans never pass through GetQR, so they don’t appear in analytics.
  • No password protection. The Password option on the design step isn’t available for WiFi.
  • Changes need a reprint. Editing the network details creates a new pattern.

Use cases

  • Guest WiFi at home or in a holiday rental.
  • Customer WiFi in cafés, restaurants, salons and shops.
  • Visitor WiFi in offices, meeting rooms and coworking spaces.
  • Event and conference WiFi on badges, signs or table cards.
  • Hotel room cards and welcome packs.

Common issues

WPA/WPA2 and WEP need a password of at least 8 characters. Check that you copied the full password. If your network has no password, choose No encryption (open network).
Check the password and security type against your router label. Network names and passwords are case-sensitive. Create a new code with the correct details and reprint it.
Make sure the phone’s camera app supports QR codes, or use a QR scanner app. If your network is hidden, turn on My WiFi is a hidden network.
The old details are stored in the printed code. Edit the QR code in My QR Codes with the new password, then download and reprint it.
This is expected. WiFi codes connect directly and never pass through GetQR, so scans can’t be counted.
