After you add the DNS record, GetQR verifies your domain and issues an HTTPS certificate automatically. This page explains each status in the Domains tab and how to fix the ones that need you.
Custom domains are in beta and may not be available in every workspace yet.

Before you start

  • You’ve started connecting a domain. See Connect a custom domain.
  • To run Check now, retry a certificate or remove a domain, you need the Admin or Editor role. A Viewer can see statuses but has no actions.

Check your domain’s status

1

Open the Domains tab

In the sidebar, open your profile menu and click My Account. Then select the Domains tab.
2

Read the status and the line under the hostname

Each domain shows a status label and a detail line. For a problem, the detail line names the exact cause, for example “Record not found yet.” For a live domain, it shows how many QR codes use it and when the certificate renews.
3

Open the actions menu

Click More actions (the menu at the end of the row) to see View DNS record, Check now and the other actions for that domain.
4

Run a check

Click Check now after you fix a record. GetQR checks DNS and the certificate immediately instead of waiting for the next automatic check.
While a domain is Waiting for DNS or Issuing certificate, click the status label to open the verification screen with Last checked and Next automatic check times.

Statuses

How often GetQR checks

  • Waiting for DNS, Issuing certificate and Live domains are checked about once an hour.
  • Certificate failed and Not resolving domains are checked about every 15 minutes, so a fixed record is picked up quickly.
  • Setup incomplete domains aren’t checked until you click Check now.
  • Check now runs a check immediately. If you click it too often, wait a minute and try again.

Email notifications

GetQR emails the members of your workspace when a domain goes live, when its certificate fails, when it stops resolving, when it recovers, and when setup is marked incomplete.

Fix a problem

Match the detail line under your hostname to the fix below.
GetQR can’t find a CNAME record for your subdomain yet.
  1. Click More actions, then View DNS record, and compare the values with your DNS provider.
  2. Make sure the record type is CNAME and the name is only the subdomain part (for example qr).
  3. DNS changes can take a while to spread. Click Check now later.
Your CNAME exists but points to the wrong target.
  1. Click More actions, then View DNS record, and copy the Target.
  2. Edit the CNAME record at your DNS provider and replace its value with that target.
  3. Click Check now.
Your DNS provider proxies the record, so GetQR can’t issue a certificate.
  1. At your DNS provider, switch the record to DNS only. On Cloudflare, click the orange cloud until it turns grey.
  2. Back in GetQR, click More actions, then Retry certificate.
Your root domain has CAA records that don’t allow Let’s Encrypt, which GetQR uses for certificates.
  1. Add this CAA record on your root domain (replace yourbrand.com with your domain):
  2. Keep your existing CAA records. You’re adding one, not replacing them.
  3. Click More actions, then Retry certificate.
Your record has been correct for more than 2 hours, but the certificate still hasn’t been issued. Click More actions, then Retry certificate. If it fails again, contact [email protected].
The domain was live, but its certificate couldn’t be renewed. Check that the CNAME record still points to the Target shown in View DNS record, that it isn’t proxied, and that no CAA record blocks letsencrypt.org. Then click Retry certificate.
You can retry a certificate up to 5 times per hour for each domain. Fix the cause first, wait, and then try again.
A domain moves to Not resolving when a live domain fails two checks in a row, usually because the CNAME record was deleted or changed. The QR codes list shows a warning banner until it’s fixed. Restore the record exactly as shown in View DNS record, then click Check now. QR codes on the shared GetQR short domain aren’t affected.
The domain spent 7 days without progress, so GetQR stopped checking it. Fix the DNS record, then click Check now. Setup restarts at Waiting for DNS with a new 7-day window.
The workspace subscription is inactive. Scans on the domain show a deactivated page instead of your content. When the subscription is active again, the domain resumes without any DNS changes. For billing questions, see the Help Center.
The QR code uses a domain that hasn’t finished setup, or the domain was removed. Anything you print now won’t scan. Click Open domain settings to finish setup before you download.

Remove a domain

Removing a domain is permanent for printed codes. Every QR code on the domain stops scanning the moment you remove it, and printed codes can’t be recovered.
1

Open the actions menu

In the Domains tab, click More actions on the domain’s row.
2

Choose Remove domain

Click Remove domain. The dialog shows how many QR codes use the domain.
3

Confirm

Tick the box to confirm that every QR code on this domain will stop working. Then click Remove domain.
