# Website QR code

A Website QR code opens a web page when someone scans it. Use it for your homepage, a landing page, a menu, a sign-up form or any other URL.

</Steps>

## Settings

| Setting | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Destination link** | Required. The page people open when they scan. If you leave out `https://`, GetQR adds it. The link can't contain spaces and needs a domain such as `example.com`. |
| **Name your QR Code** | Optional, up to 40 characters. Only you see it. If you leave it empty, GetQR uses **My Website QR Code**. |
| **Custom short link** | Optional. Lets you choose the end of the short link, 3–15 characters (Latin letters, numbers, hyphens and underscores). Click **Check availability** before you continue. You can't change it after the QR code is created. |

## What people see when they scan

The phone opens your web page in the browser. The QR code contains a GetQR short link that redirects to your destination, so each scan is counted in [analytics](/analytics/overview).

Because of the short link, you can change the destination later and printed codes keep working.

## Use cases

* Link a printed flyer, poster or business card to your website.
* Open a restaurant menu or price list hosted on your site.
* Point packaging to a product page or instructions.
* Send event guests to a registration or ticket page.
* Use one printed code for a campaign and switch the landing page when the campaign changes.

## Common issues

  <Accordion title="This link may be incorrect or lead to a broken page.">
    If the link isn't a valid web address (for example, it has spaces or no domain), you can't continue until you fix it.

    The same message can also appear as a warning when GetQR can't reach a valid-looking page. In that case you can still continue, but open the link in your browser first to make sure it works.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Website URL is required">
    **Destination link** is empty. Paste the address of your page.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The code opens the wrong page">
    Open **My QR Codes**, edit the QR code and update **Destination link**. Printed codes pick up the new link right away.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="I need to change the custom short link">
    A custom short link can't be changed after the QR code is created. Create a new QR code with the short link you want.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The page opens but looks broken on phones">
    The QR code only opens the link. Check that the page itself works on mobile.
