# Video QR code

> Play a video file when someone scans the code.

A Video QR code plays a video file you upload to GetQR. Use it for tutorials, product demos, trailers or messages, without posting the video on a video platform.

## Before you start

* Have one video file ready, up to 50 MB. Common formats such as MP4, MOV and AVI are accepted.
* For the best playback on phones, use MP4.
* To link a YouTube or Vimeo video instead, use a [Website QR code](/qr-types/website) with the video's link.

## Create it

## Settings

| Setting | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Video** | Required. One video file, up to 50 MB. Only video files are accepted (MP4, MOV, AVI and similar). To replace it, remove the file and upload a new one. |
| **Name your QR Code** | Optional, up to 40 characters. Only you see it. Default: **My Video QR Code**. |
| **Custom short link** | Optional. Lets you choose the end of the short link, 3–15 characters. You can't change it after the QR code is created. |

## What people see when they scan

The video file opens in the phone's browser and plays in the browser's built-in video player. There is no extra landing page.

Scans go through a GetQR short link, so they're counted in [analytics](/analytics/overview), and you can replace the video later without reprinting the code.

## Use cases

* How-to and assembly videos on product packaging.
* A welcome or thank-you video in a gift box or greeting card.
* Property tours on a "For sale" sign.
* Training clips on equipment or workstations.
* Event highlights on a poster.
