# App Link QR code

> Send iPhone users to the App Store and Android users to Google Play with one QR code.

An App Link QR code sends each person to the right store for their phone: iPhone users go to the App Store and Android users go to Google Play. Use it on packaging, posters and in-store displays to get more installs.

## Before you start

* Copy the link to your app's App Store page, its Google Play page, or both. You need at least one.

## Create it

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the QR code builder">
    Click **Create QR** in the sidebar.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose App Link">
    In **Choose QR type**, click **App Link**. The builder moves to **Create content**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter the app name">
    Type your app's name in **App Name**. It appears in **My QR Codes** instead of the store link.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add the store links">
    Paste your App Store link in **App Store link (iOS)**, your Google Play link in **Google Play link (Android)**, or both.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Name your QR code (optional)">
    Type a name in **Name your QR Code** to find the code later. Only you see it.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Continue to the design">
    Click **Next**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Customize and create">
    Style your code in **Customize & Download**, then click **Create QR**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  You can type only the app ID instead of the full link. When you leave the field, GetQR completes it: an iOS ID becomes `https://apps.apple.com/app/<ID>` and an Android package name becomes `https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=<package>`.
</Tip>

## Settings

| Setting | What it does |
| - | - |
| **App Name** | Required. Up to 40 characters. Shown in **My QR Codes** so you can tell your app codes apart. |
| **App Store link (iOS)** | Where iPhone and iPad users go. Must be an `apps.apple.com` link. |
| **Google Play link (Android)** | Where Android users go. Must be a `play.google.com` link. |
| **Name your QR Code** | Optional. Up to 40 characters. Only you see it. If you leave it empty, GetQR uses a default name. |

You must fill in at least one of the two store links.

## What people see when they scan

There is no landing page. GetQR checks the scanning device and opens the store straight away:

* **iPhone or iPad:** the App Store link.
* **Android:** the Google Play link.
* **Any other device, such as a computer:** the App Store link, or the Google Play link if you only added that one.

If you only add one store link, phones on the other platform also open that link. Every scan is counted in your statistics.

## Use cases

* Product packaging and manuals that point to a companion app.
* Posters, flyers and table tents that promote your app.
* Checkout counters and receipts that invite customers to install a loyalty app.
* Trade-show booths and business cards for app makers.

## Common issues

  <Accordion title="iOS link must be from apps.apple.com">
    The **App Store link (iOS)** field only accepts App Store links. Open your app in the App Store, use **Share** to copy the link, and paste it. Links to your website or to TestFlight are not accepted.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Android link must be from play.google.com">
    The **Google Play link (Android)** field only accepts Google Play links, such as `https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.example.app`. Links to an APK file or another app store are not accepted. To send people somewhere else, use a [Website QR code](/qr-types/website).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Please provide at least one app link.">
    Both store fields are empty. Add at least one store link.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="App name is required">
    Fill in **App Name**. It can be up to 40 characters.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Android users land in the App Store">
    You only added an App Store link, so every device goes there. Edit the QR code and add a **Google Play link (Android)**. The printed code stays the same.
