# Troubleshooting

> Fix common problems with scanning, status pages, downloads, custom domains and logging in.

Find the symptom below and follow the fix. If you're still stuck, email [help@getqr.com](mailto:help@getqr.com).

## The QR code doesn't scan

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="The camera doesn't recognize the code at all">
    * Make sure the code has strong contrast: a dark pattern on a light background works best.
    * For print, download SVG or PDF, or JPG/PNG at 2048 or 4096 px, so the code stays sharp. See [Print your QR code](/downloads/printing).
    * Leave some empty space around the code and don't print it too small.
    * Test the downloaded file with your phone before printing a large batch.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The code looks broken or invisible on a dark background">
    PNG and SVG downloads have a transparent background. On a dark surface the pattern can disappear. Download JPG for a solid background, or place the code on a light area.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="A Branded or AI design doesn't scan reliably">
    Complex or low-contrast images make codes harder to read. Try a simpler image with more contrast, or increase **Pattern size** so the QR pattern shows through more. If GetQR says the image can't carry a reliable QR code, pick another image. See [Branded designs](/design/branded-qr) and [AI designs](/design/ai-qr).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="My logo makes the code hard to scan">
    Use **Scale logo** in the **Logo** tab to make it smaller, or upload a more square version. Very wide or tall logos are adjusted automatically. See [Add a logo](/design/logo).
  </Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

## The code scans but shows a GetQR page

When something stops a code from opening your content, people see one of these pages. Each one says it's not a technical error.

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="“QR is paused by the owner.”">
    The code is paused. You paused it, its pause date passed, or it reached its scan limit. Open **My QR Codes**, click the code's status to see why, then click **Activate** or use **Set Access Rules** to change the date or limit. See [Manage your QR codes](/getting-started/managing-qr-codes).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="“QR is deactivated.”">
    The workspace subscription has ended. All the workspace's codes show this page until the Admin renews. Nothing was deleted. See [Account and trial](/getting-started/account-and-trial).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="“QR is deleted by the owner.”">
    The code was deleted. Deleted codes can't be restored; create a new QR code and replace the printed one.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="“Finish setup to activate this QR code”">
    The code was scanned before its account was set up. This happens when you build a code on getqr.com but don't finish checkout. Complete the signup to activate it. See [Account and trial](/getting-started/account-and-trial).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="“This QR code is protected”">
    The code has a password. Enter it and click **Unlock**. If you see **Too many incorrect attempts. Please try again later.**, wait and try again. If the owner set a new password, people who unlocked the code before need to enter the new one.
  </Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

## The code opens the wrong page or an error

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="The destination shows an error or a “page not found”">
    GetQR redirects correctly, but your destination isn't working. Check the **QR Health** column on **My QR Codes**: it shows problems such as **Broken link**, **SSL expired** or **Domain expired**. Fix the website, or click **Update destination URL** to point the code somewhere else. You don't need to reprint.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="QR Health says “Couldn't verify destination” or “Access blocked”">
    Your website has bot protection or rate limits that block GetQR's automatic check. Real visitors are most likely unaffected. Open the destination yourself to confirm it loads.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="I changed the content but people still see the old version">
    Changes apply on the next scan. Make sure you saved them: the content editor and the builder both have a save button you need to click. WiFi QR codes are the exception: they store the network details in the code, so you need to download and print them again.
  </Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

## Custom domain problems

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="“… isn't live yet”">
    The code uses a custom domain that hasn't finished DNS setup. Anything you print now won't scan. Click **Open domain settings** and finish verification. See [Verify and troubleshoot a domain](/custom-domains/verify-and-troubleshoot).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="“… has stopped resolving.”">
    The DNS record for your custom domain was removed or changed. Codes on that domain won't scan until the record is restored. Codes on your GetQR link aren't affected. See [Verify and troubleshoot a domain](/custom-domains/verify-and-troubleshoot).
  </Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

## Downloads and the builder

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="“Failed to download QR code” or “Download failed”">
    Try again, or choose a different format. If it keeps failing, email [help@getqr.com](mailto:help@getqr.com) with the QR code name and format.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Only JPG, PNG and PDF are available">
    Branded and AI designs download as JPG or PNG at 1024 px, or as PDF. SVG, EPS and larger sizes are available for Custom designs. See [Formats and resolution](/downloads/formats-and-resolution).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="AI designs says I've used all generations">
    AI designs have a daily generation limit. Pick an image you already generated, or use **Custom designs** or **Branded designs** until the limit resets.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="I can't create, edit or download anything">
    Either your role is Viewer, or the workspace subscription has ended. Viewers can only download, print and view statistics. If you see **This workspace is paused**, only the Admin can renew.
  </Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

## Logging in

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="My login link expired">
    Login links are valid for 24 hours. Request a new one from the **Log In** window on [getqr.com](https://getqr.com).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="“Session timed out!”">
    Click **Re-login** and sign in again to pick up where you left off.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="No account was found for my email">
    You may have signed up with another address, or you were invited to a workspace and haven't accepted yet. See [Account and trial](/getting-started/account-and-trial).
  </Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>
