# Branded QR codes

> Turn your logo or any image into a working, scannable QR code.

With **Branded designs**, you upload a logo or image and GetQR rebuilds it as a working, scannable QR code. The picture becomes the code itself, instead of sitting in the middle of it.

## Before you start

* A square-ish logo or image with clear contrast, at least 64×64 pixels and up to 5 MB. PNG, JPG, SVG, WebP and HEIC files work.
* You need the Admin or Editor role.
* Want a classic code with a small logo in the center instead? See [Add a logo](/design/logo).

## Create a branded QR code

  <Step title="Open the design step">
    In the builder, go to **Customize & Download**.
  </Step>

    Click the **Branded designs** tab. The **General** chip opens.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Upload your image">
    Click the upload area and choose your logo or image, or drag it in.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Crop it">
    Frame the part you want in the square crop window. You can scale, rotate and flip the image. Click **Save**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Adjust the pattern size">

  </Step>

    Click the **Customization** chip.
  </Step>

    Click **Create QR**, or **Save changes** if you're editing.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Settings

| Setting | Where | What it does |
| - | - | - |
| **Pattern size** | **General** | How strongly the code pattern shows through your image, from 40% to 80%. Default 50%. A larger pattern scans more reliably on complex images. |
| **QR shape** | **Customization** | Dot style of the code. |
| **Corner Square shape** | **Customization** | Shape of the outer corner squares. |
| **Corner Dot shape** | **Customization** | Shape of the dot inside each corner. |
| **Corner Square color** | **Customization** | Suggested colors taken from your image, plus black. |
| **Custom Square colors** | **Customization** | Any color you choose from the palette, a hex code or the eyedropper. |
| **Password** and **Schedule** | Chips | Same behavior options as Custom designs. See [Custom QR codes](/design/custom-qr). |

<Note>
  Branded designs don't use frames or a center logo. They download as JPG or PNG at 1024 px, or as PDF. See [Formats and resolution](/downloads/formats-and-resolution).
</Note>

## How GetQR keeps it scannable

GetQR checks every branded code before you save it. If your image has low contrast, GetQR boosts it and shows a message. If it can't build a reliable code from the image, it tells you, so you never save a code that doesn't scan.

## Use cases

* **Logo as the code:** packaging, business cards and storefronts where the brand should be the first thing people see.
* **Product photos:** a code that looks like the product it links to.
* **Event art:** a poster image that doubles as the ticket link.

## Tips for good results

* Use a simple image with one clear subject and strong contrast.
* Logos with a transparent background work well. In a PNG download, the transparency is kept.
* If the code is hard to scan, increase **Pattern size**.
* Test with a few phones before you print.

  <Accordion title="The effect is subtle or the image is barely visible">
    Images with little contrast give a subtle effect. Codes that store a lot of content also show less of the image. Try a higher-contrast image.
