# Read your reports

> Understand each metric and chart on the Statistics page, filter the data and compare periods.

This guide explains each number and chart on the **Statistics** page and how to narrow the data down with filters. For how scans are counted, see the [Analytics overview](/analytics/overview).

## The summary cards

The three cards at the top of the chart summarize the selected period.

| Card | What it means |
| - | - |
| **Total QR codes** | The number of QR codes included in the current view. With a location or device filter, it counts only the codes that got scans matching that filter. |
| **Total Scans** | Every recorded scan in the period. |
| **Unique Scans** | Distinct devices that scanned each QR code. One phone scanning the same code five times counts as 1. |

### Compare with the previous period

Next to **Total Scans** and **Unique Scans** you see a percentage and a label such as **vs 7 days**. GetQR compares the selected period with the period of the same length right before it. For example, with **Last 7 days** selected, it compares this week with the 7 days before.

* A green value with an up arrow means more scans than the previous period. A red value means fewer.
* If the previous period had no scans, the change shows **+100%**.
* The badge shows at most 100%, even when growth is higher.
* On phones the comparison is hidden to save space.

## The scans chart

The chart shows scans over time for the selected period.

* The **Total Scans** line shows all scans.
* The **Unique Scans** line shows scans from distinct devices.
* Hover over (or tap) a point to see the exact numbers for that hour, day or month.

Each point is one hour for **Last 24 hours**, one month for **Last 12 months**, **Year to Date** and **All Time**, and one day for the other preset ranges.

## The breakdown panels

Below the chart, three panels break your scans down. Each panel has tabs at the top and shows scans per item.

| Panel | Tabs | Use it to |
| - | - | - |
| Top QR codes | **QR Name**, **QR Type**, **Destination URLs** | Find your best-performing codes, which QR types get scanned most and which destinations people reach. |
| Locations | **Cities**, **Countries**, **Continents** | See where scans happen. |
| Devices | **Devices**, **Browsers**, **OS** | See whether people scan on mobile, tablet or desktop, and with which browser and operating system. |

In each panel you can:

* Switch between a pie chart and a list with the icons in the panel.
* Click **View All** to see every item in a searchable list. The button appears when there are more items than fit in the panel; on a computer, hover over the panel to show it.
* Click an item to filter the whole page by it. Click it again to remove the filter.
* On the **QR Name** and **Destination URLs** tabs, copy the QR code's short link or the destination link.

<Note>
  Locations come from the scanner's IP address, so they're approximate, not a precise position. Scans without location or device data appear as **Unknown**.
</Note>

## Filter your data

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the filter menu">
    Click **Filter** next to the date picker.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose a category">
    Pick **QR name**, **QR type**, **Country**, **City**, **Continent**, **Device**, **Browser**, **OS** or **Destination URL**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select one or more values">
    Click the values you want. You can select several values in the same category.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review the active filters">
    Each active filter appears as a chip above the chart. Remove one chip with its close icon, or click **Clear All** to remove every filter.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Filters apply to everything on the page: the summary cards, the chart and all three panels.

<Tip>
  Filters and the date range are saved in the page URL. Bookmark the page or send the link to a teammate in your workspace to share the same view.
</Tip>

## Compare two periods

The page shows one period at a time. To compare two periods side by side:

1. Select the first period in the date picker and note the numbers.
2. Select the second period, or a custom range on the calendar, and compare.

For a quick check, use the percentage change on the summary cards, which always compares against the previous period of the same length. To compare in a spreadsheet, [export the data](/downloads/export-analytics) for each period.

## Time zone

The Statistics page uses your browser's time zone. Days and hours on the chart, and the start of **Month to Date**, **Quarter to Date** and **Year to Date**, follow your local time. If you travel or change your computer's time zone, the same day can show slightly different numbers.

Scheduled reports keep the time zone you had when you created them. See [Scheduled reports](/analytics/scheduled-reports).

## Common issues

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="The chart is empty">
    Widen the date range or clear your filters. If your QR codes have never been scanned, share them first: data appears after the first scan.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Total QR codes shows fewer codes than I have">
    With a location, device, browser or destination filter active, **Total QR codes** counts only the codes that got matching scans in the period.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The percentage change looks wrong">
    The change compares the selected period with the period of the same length right before it, and the badge shows at most 100%. If the previous period had no scans, any new scans show **+100%**.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="A city or country I expected is missing">
    Locations are based on IP addresses. Mobile networks and VPNs often route traffic through another city or country, so scans can appear under a different location or as **Unknown**.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="My numbers differ from a teammate's">
    Check that you use the same date range and filters. If you're in different time zones, the same date range can start and end at different moments.
  </Accordion>
